Kolej MARA Seremban

Salam and hey everyone (still having the same doubts)

So as I promised, this post is specially written for those who want to know more about Kolej MARA Seremban (KMS) and what it has to offer. So let’s begin, eyh?

Kolej MARA Seremban is located at the middle of Seremban City where you can easily catch any taxis in this area (by phoning them lah). You do not have to worry about transportation. KMS is only 5 minutes ride away from KTM Station and roughly 10 minutes ride away from Terminal 1 (by taxi/car). It is also near to shopping malls, playgrounds, parks, jogging tracks surrounding lakes, hospitals/clinics and etc.

If you're dead bored during leisure time, you can go anywhere you want though I might have to remind you that in KMS, we have curfews. It has been tighten than the previous years though. You can go out everyday but strictly between 5pm - 7pm only for weekdays (exclude Friday). You can also go back home every weekend and be back by 7pm on Sunday but careful to not go home if there are events that will take place on the weekends. Sometimes the director might not allow anyone to go home on weekends if the events require every student to participate.

I think the maximum number of students that KMS can hold is roughly 500 students, though the number of intakes are often way lesser than that. My batch was the largest batch in KMS with 298 students, 133 for IB kids and 165 for A-Level kids. The previous batches and even the batches after us are lesser than 200. Well, it actually depends on MARA. We just hope that many more are getting accepted and offered to study in KMS. I believe many would not be able to further their studies without receiving any external aids. Let’s pray that MARA will keep on sponsoring students and sending them abroad to study.

Wait- what is IB? And what is A-LEVEL? I think most of SPM leavers might have already known or familiar with A-Level, but maybe none about IB. IB stands for International Baccalaureate. It has many education levels and the one that is offered in KMS is the tertiary level, called International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Some say that it is one of the hardest programme in the world but I beg to differ. It is actually up to us. To me, IB is not really that hard but it will be if we do not give our best commitments in doing it. Well, it differs for every person. It is for you to judge when you’ve experienced it. On the other hand, A-Level that is offered in KMS is the Cambridge one. I don’t really know much about A-level because I took IB. For more information about A-Level in KMS, you can simply visit my friend's blog. You can even visit his blog if you want to know more about the hostels and all. :) *he's a good friend of mine and I can assure you that he tells no lies. Haha.

Well in IB, you are required to take six subjects. As in KMS, the mandatory subjects are Malay SL, English SL/HL, Mathematics SL/HL. For convenience, let me explain to you guys this way. (Also note that both SL and HL stand for Standard Level and Higher Level respectively)

Architecture - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business HL, Physics HL, Mathematics SL, Visual Arts SL.

Applied Science - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Chemistry / Biology&Physics / Chemistry&Physics HL, Mathematics SL.

Health Science / Medicine / Dentistry - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Chemistry HL, Mathematics SL.

Mineral Geoscience - Malay SL, English SL/HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Chemistry&Physics HL, Mathematics SL/HL.

Tindikan Matematik - Malay SL, English SL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Chemistry / Biology&Physics / Chemistry&Physics HL, Mathematics HL.

Tindikan Biologi - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Chemistry / Biology&Physics HL, Mathematics SL.

Tindikan Kimia - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Chemistry / Chemistry&Physics HL, Mathematics SL.

Tindikan Fizik - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology&Physics / Chemistry&Physics HL, Mathematics SL.

Agronomy / Crops & Agriculture - Malay SL, English HL, ITGS/Economics/Business HL, ITGS/Economics/Business SL, Biology HL, Mathematics SL.

It depends on MARA on what courses that they will offer each year. Usually it differs every year. Since now our economy is not in a very good term, the number of courses that they offer decreased. The number of places also decreased this year. I heard the juniors now are experiencing a change in time table and only two persons occupy a single dormitory room. Well that's great. To me lah. You have more space in the room instead of sharing 3 persons per room.

The lecturers there are very helpful. Try to be close with them because believe me, it'll help you a lot, both academically and socially. Cewahhh. But seriously, bila dah kamceng memang syiok haha. But I warn you guys to not go over the limit. Be respectful always.

Suasana di KMS sangat islamik. Some of former students even called KMS as KIMS, which stands for Kolej Islam MARA Seremban. I don't know whether they called it in a good way or as a sarcasm but the Islamic practices are not foreign practices in KMS. :) This is one of the best things that I love about KMS, its Islamic surroundings and atmospheres. Quoted from my senior, "KMS ni bukanlah tempat yang baik, tapi tempat untuk orang berubah jadi baik". I hope KMS will be a great platform in preparing the students mentally, spiritually and academically before heading to overseas. As I always see IB and A-Level as one of the hurdles that prepares me for the degree phase, I hope both preparation programmes and events held at KMS are sufficient for us to overcome the challenges that we will be facing later in the next phase of education and life, either dalam negara atau pun luar negara.

Well for the current students and future students who'll be going to KMS, good luck and all the best for your studies! Comment below or contact me via twitter if you have any doubts and questions regarding IB or KMS. I'm sorry that I can't really tell you guys everything because I believe the links that I have given are already sufficient to fill in the blank answers in your head. :)

Till my next post then, salam.

    1. Hai!

  4. Hi Aisyah! I was wondering will I have a chance to go overseas with the current economy situation in the coming years in your opinion? I have been offered a place at KMS for the 17/19 intake for A levels is it a good risk to take? How are your studies going? Did a lot of people from your batch managed to go overseas?

    1. Hi! I think I have answered your question in Instagram, right? Pardon me if you're a different person (sorry for the late reply too).

Given the current situation, I'll say it's harder to go overseas through MARA. I am not saying you won't get the chance but it'll be more challenging; either MARA tighten the requirements or simply, do not offer anyone to study abroad.

If you're aiming to go overseas, it's still a good chance to take the A-Level in KMS. Tell you what, you really need to study hard! I believe, you will always have to take risks in anything that you do, especially when it comes to studying so, yeah, A-Levels is a good risk to take. Even if you are really focusing on going abroad, there are a lot of local universities that accept A-Levels qualification, so worry not about that. Though I have to tell you that if you don't mind doing A-Levels for two years just go ahead because if we were to compare A-Levels with a foundation/matriculation, you're going to take an extra year for A-Levels. But I would not say it's a waste of year doing the A-Levels because studying will never be equal to wasting time. :)

Regarding my studies here, I'd say it's very challenging yet enjoyable! I am always struggling, even after SPM and IB! It's never easy but I guess it's what you have on your mind that will decide whether it difficult or bearable. I always try telling myself that nothing is easy nor too difficult, and if I put my mind into doing it, it'll come along easily afterwards.

From my batch, lots of us managed to further our studies abroad, alhamdulillah. I would say more than half of us (both IB and A-Levels) are at overseas right now. We have a total of nearly 300 (or maybe more) in our batch and there's 114 of us in the UK. The rest are scattered in the USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India and Malaysia.

    1. Hi there. Sorry for the very late reply 😅 To be honest saya tak tahu berapa kos untuk ambil IB (applied science under IB di KMS) di KMS sebab kalau awak under MARA, it’s free of cost unless if you failed one, you need to pay back them. I might be wrong about this but this is what I understood. Based on surat tawaran MARA, they sponsored me around ~RM9.4k untuk buat persediaan di KMS. I’m not too sure kalau student private kena bayar berapa. I’m guessing it’ll be roughly the same. I think you’re going to need to pay extra RM1k for registration (Muafakat, dobi etc). Makan minum tempat tinggal semua termasuk dalam yuran I think? Student MARA cuma kena bayar registration fee and muafakat fee every year that’s all. Yang lain MARA tanggung.

Selamat maju jaya buat saudara!

    1. Sorry for the very late reply but this is to future SPM/highschool leavers who may be wondering the same question.

MARA normally will advertise their recruitment on their official website one-three weeks post SPM results each year. I'd suggest to keep yourself updated with afterschool.my/scholarship since they always update on all the available scholarships.

You can't really apply directly to KMS since KMS is under Kolej MARA. Although there are a few cases of private/self-funded students studied in KMS, unfortunately, I am not aware of the methods or ways on how to get yourself enrolled like they did. You can try to directly contact KMS for that.

KMS usually falls under scholarship programmes offered by MARA and Yayasan Peneraju. Some other scholarship programmes might also offer a place in KMS so always check them up. Some of the few that I know is Yayasan Khazanah.

I am very sorry for the late reply. I've tried replying this long time ago but I don't know why it didn't come through. My apology.

    1. Wa'salam. I think, yes, you can get into KMS as a private student because I have a few of my friends from my batch who did the same. Akak rasa, awak boleh contact directly dengan mereka. Their contact details can be found on their official websites.

On a side note, this might be challenging if they already done their recruitment but there's no harm in trying. Good luck!
